The Ultimate Strategic Advantage: Access
In the world of high-level business, executive strategy, and legacy design, one resource is more valuable than capital: unfiltered, timely, and secret counsel. Think of the highest security clearance—the kind of access that gives you the intelligence to pivot before a crisis hits or position yourself for a monumental opportunity. Now, imagine that level of clearance, but from the Architect of the Universe.
The message is clear: Friends share secrets and give empowering counsel.
This isn’t a mere theological concept; it’s the ultimate strategic advantage for the purposeful leader. One outstanding benefit of walking in the awe of God—the fear of the Lord—is that He would share His secret counsel with us.
As Psalm 25:14 states with crystalline clarity:
- “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.”
The Case Study of Abraham: Friendship That Gets an Early Warning
Consider the profound example of Abraham in Genesis 18. God was preparing to execute judgment against Sodom and Gomorrah. It was an inevitable, world-changing action.
Yet, before He took action, God paused. He essentially asked Himself (Genesis 18:17), should I withhold this massive piece of intelligence from My friend? And the answer was no. He shared His plan with Abraham, and Abraham, in turn, responded with profound intercession.
That is what a friendship with God looks like
Those who truly fear God become His friends and receive an access clearance that many do not possess. This is critical: This is not a believer versus unbeliever issue. This is one believer to another.
God is not everyone’s friend, even within the Kingdom. Friendship with God is reserved for those who meet the prerequisites of trust and submission.
The Cost of the Clearance: Immediate Obedience
We all crave what Abraham had—the ear of God, the advanced notice, the privilege of partnership in strategic intercession. But before we begin to crave the benefits, we must explore what brought him into that rare realm.
The answer is found in one of the most testing moments in human history: Genesis 22.
God commanded Abraham to give Isaac, the promised son, as an offering. This was an instruction that defied logic, mocked the promise, and shattered every parental instinct. Yet, what did Abraham do? Early the next morning, Abraham set out to obey without discussing even with God Himself.
This wasn’t a drawn-out deliberation; it was immediate, strategic execution of an instruction from the Sovereign Authority.
At the climax of that transaction, the angel declared the defining outcome: “…For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son…” (Genesis 22:12).
Abraham’s fear of God was not demonstrated by his church attendance or his prayer frequency, but by how immediate his obedience was to an instruction that didn’t make sense.
The Unannounced Test and the Sovereign Strategy
We know God was testing Abraham, but Abraham didn’t know he was being tested. This is the crucial takeaway for the marketplace leader:
You will not receive a memo announcing, “ATTENTION: Major Test of Your Fear of God Commencing at 8:00 AM.” Your tests will come disguised as inconveniences, illogical demands, or counter-intuitive instructions.
If you embrace the sovereignty of God and walk in His fear—which is expressed through respect and submission—whether it is convenient or not, you could become His friend. This is the truth that fuels the 100-Year Legacy: Friendship with God demands obedience to His will.
Have you got it? The key to unlocking God’s secret counsel—the ultimate wisdom for your purposeful enterprise—is the demonstration of immediate, unreserved obedience.
Confession and Declaration
Father, thank you for the grace to obey and obey immediately, in Jesus name, I pray.
Amen.
