A SENSE OF WHOLENESS

The season we’re currently in is one of the most complex of seasons because it is filled with so many activities. On one hand, we’re gradually winding down and wrapping things up for the year and on the other hand, we revving up for the New Year. Things cannot be any more complex than that, can it? So much is going on and if you’re not careful, you’ll get swept away by the tide of activities and forget what is important to you, especially in this season.

WHAT IF?

What if you knew that everything would turn out well?

What if you wake up tomorrow to discover that those things you so badly want are in possession?

What if your hair grew; or you became the CEO; or you got the desired physique you wanted; or you got that bank alert?

Just what if? Would you be happier? Would you smile more? Would you treat people better and become more patient?

Why pause your joy and peace of mind just because certain events are yet to occur?

Why become so grumpy and ungrateful, simply because you haven’t gotten the things you desire?

I know I may be bombarding you with questions this beautiful afternoon, but let me ask you one more, what if you knew that sometimes, what we need is not more stuff or bigger achievements, but an outlook of gratitude.

Today, I want you to flip your perspective, rather than focus on the things you do not YET have, focus on the things you do have. At the risk of sounding cliché, I will like to remind you that the fact that you have life is enough reason to be grateful.

It is so easy to think or feel like you have nothing to be grateful for but this is not true. Every day presents us with reasons to be thankful. Now, this does not mean that we must not strive to become and to have more, we should; for it is in our work to get better that we release our essence for the benefit of the world. But this does mean that we should place value on what we have and who we are in the present.

Noticing the little, seemingly insignificant things and being grateful for them is a great practice. It is those little things that make big differences. Imagine not being able to use the rest room without help or chew food easily, doesn’t look good, does it? We must be grateful.

So, let’s do this exercise together, on a note pad, write at least 10 little things you have that you are grateful for. Keep this list in a conspicuous area in your room and take a look at it everyday till the year ends. I’m sure that it will cause a gratitude revolution in your mind and life.

Till we meet again next week.

Embrace your Super Power,

Bidemi.

IT’S NOT OVER YET

Sounds a little odd right? I mean, I’m pretty sure the message hitting you from all corners on social media is that you need to start looking into 2018 and begin putting things in place in order to make it better than this year. Now, inasmuch as I agree with all these, they do not form the focus of this post today. If you’d like to get information about how to envision, plan for, work and have the life of your dreams next year, check out my posts from November. I wrote a whole series on that.

PAY THE PRICE

Success comes at a price; living the life of your dreams will cost you money, energy, relationships, etc. To have the life you desire, sacrifices have to be made and sometimes these can be costly. For example, building a world-class business will require that you quit doing things at your convenience and giving one hundred percent every time. This does not mean that you cannot have fun or enjoy yourself as you journey towards success

STEP OUT; GET TO WORK

They say that the journey of a lifetime begins with one step; my version of the saying anyway.  Now that you can see the future and are abreast of the steps you need to take, it is time to step out.
All that you need to do next, I promise is to take the first step and get to work on your vision. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? It is indeed simple but sadly, not many people get up and get to work. Some people are just satisfied with knowing that they have a vision and a plan. Taking the first steps requires energy, focus and consistency which all come together to birth momentum! This reminds me of a law of motion that says that everything remains in a state of inactivity till a force acts on it. Motion requires force or energy. This means that it doesn’t happen automatically, it is made to happen.

NOW THAT YOU HAVE ENVISIONED…

…Put pen to paper!

It is not in doubt that you know that without Vision, you cannot have a productive nor impactful life. This is because vision gives a sense of purpose; a direction, which helps you streamline your life and get rid of those things that lead you no where near your best life.

Last week, I shared some thoughts about vision and how to actually develop a vision for your life. This week, our focus is on the need to turn those visions to plans. Aha! Plans… we can’t escape this important exercise.

As Far As Your Eyes Can See

The year is fast coming to an end and it is a great time to begin to envision what 2018 will be for us.  I have been thinking about this journey and how clear we need to see before we set out, only to realise that for me, clarity has come in seasons and in phases. What this means is that I have needed conviction more than my second and third step in the journey. I now know that as long as I can understand the framework for my first step, and I am convinced it is for me then taking that first step is expedient to seeing the next one.

To begin envisioning, ask yourself the following questions:

DON’T LET THEM

A few years ago, someone said something to me that got me worked up because, first and foremost, it wasn’t the truth and I felt betrayed and mistreated.  Before I realised what was happening, I not only found myself trying to disprove them,  I also became suspicious of others and in that same breathe felt the need to be careful around people.

The truth is this person wronged me and for no just cause, the truth is, they hurt me in the process; however, the problem was with them and not with me.  But because I was hurting and I had decided that they had come to get me, I inadvertently declared a war of sorts on everyone and that was my folly.

As I continued on this war path, most of my allies were confused and the others irritated because they didn’t understand why I spent so much time on something I could so easily have walked away from!  But remember, I was hurting and hurting people struggle to be rational.  It was in this mess that God spoke, He said “Bidemi, don’t let them”.  Don’t let them? Isn’t it too late for that? They already hurt me, I wept.
